I personally use the MOPAR brand ATF+4 in mine. $30 for 5 liters on Amazon. Same fluid is used for power steering. Torque plugs to 20 ft-lbs. 14 mm Allen plugs.

You do need a 10mm hex head to get the drain plug out and when it comes out the fluid shoots back a good 8" or so.

The fluid should also be changed if the transfer case has been submerged in water. Your mechanic can check the fluid condition first and change it if it's dirty. The transfer case is easy to change but it does take special fluid that you will have to buy at the dealer. If I recall it takes 2 qts but you might want to get 3 to make sure. Usually the transfer case is good for a lot more miles, 60000 if I recall. It is the rear differential on the AWD models that call for the first change around 15000 miles, and then about every 30000 miles after that. A number "3" on the maintenance minder display means change the transfer case and transmission fluid.
